The Authority, established in 1989, consists of 5 members appointed by the Board of Supervisors to a 5-year term; with responsibility to operate existing community-on-lot-disposal systems, to promulgate and issue regulations governing such systems, and to ensure safe and reliable operations - both technical and financial.
The Authority has been instrumental in the planning, design, construction and operation of the Route 100 Centralized Sewer Facility, located off Route 100 on Fellowship Road. This state-of-the-art facility is a joint effort of the Township and a group of private developers. The facility, costing almost $6,000,000 has been designed for extra capacity for the Township's needs.
Under the Authority's direction, the Township's capacity will bring public sewer to the Villages of Byers and Eagle, and will also allow many of our older residential developments to receive public sewer.
While the Centralized Facility's treatment of the wastewater is a technical marvel, the method of disposing the wastewater is at the forefront of the march towards "Greener Horizons". Every drop of the treated (harmless) wastewater is destined to be land disposed. Whether by spray irrigation (3-foot "shower heads") or drip irrigation (3/4 tubing below the surface), our disposal methods replenish the groundwater in an environmentally friendly way. |
